A project of Red Swastik Society for Senior Citizen/Elders
Red Swastik Society is a registered public charitable trust run by self-reliant Samaritans. It is a social institution catering to health related services and serving mankind since 2001. With the modest beginning in the year 2001, now after 14 years we feel proud to reach nearly 57,00,000 needy, neglected and disadvantaged ones through our dedicated team of volunteers of 61 branches irrespective of caste, creed, faith, colour or gender (refer www.redswastik.org).
Vanprashatha is an age old concept in Hindu traditions which means "voluntarily relinquishing the worldly pleasures"; however, the modern meaning attributed to this phenomenon is "retirement from worldly pleasures out of compulsions".
Due to enhanced longevity & paucity of living space it is difficult to house more than one generations under one roof. The family life in metro cities, urban & semi urban areas is reduced to nuclear family. Resultantly elders loose the significance in the nuclear family. This has resulted a rift between ELDERS and young bread earners of the family as elders feel their utility to the family is lost.
Hence the hopes of countless happy and satisfied ELDERS are shattered as they find difficult to enjoy life with their FAMILIES due variation in priorities and likings & dislikings of members of house due to generation gap. Keeping in view the need of the society it has been thought by the members of Red Swastik Society to commence a project called "Shiwalaya .. a home for dignified living for the elders".
Shiwalaya aims at providing an opportunity, space, comfort, affordable facility and dignity to all those elders of the society those who want to enjoy peaceful and comfortable life during 2nd and last inning of their life on this planet in the lap of Shiwa. Through Shiwalaya we trying offer a fresh look to the present and future life senior citizen.
Shiwalaya is on 4 acres of land contiguous to village Chaure, which is situated at 22 kms from historical town and one of the major central railway junctions - Kalyan, Off KaIyan-Murbad road, in Thane district of Maharashtra, Hindustan. It is connected with hourly State Transport bus service from Kalyan (West) Railway Station.
